What is it? Gamma Gamma’s annual 5K is back for its fifth year and is looking to be bigger than ever. The race, which will again take place around Oxford and the Miami campus, will be raising money for the Miami University Libraries to purchase textbooks for student use at the library. Last year, the university began purchasing books for large lecture classes, which students are able to use at the library rather than purchase them individually.
What are we doing now? Currently, Gamma Gamma is recruiting sponsors and volunteers, reserving routes, and looking for new ideas that will make this year’s 5K more successful than any other! We are planning for the race to take place on October 6th.
Okeana Animal Adoption Foundation Dog Show
What is it? In late September, Gamma Gamma will be hosting its third annual amateur dog show competition. This event helps create awareness and raise funds for the Okeana Animal Adoption Foundation, located just outside of Oxford. This year we will be marketing the event strongly towards the Oxford community as well as Miami students.
What are we doing now? We are just finishing our planning stages, which include producing sponsor letters, and confirming location, date, and target markets. We hope to use previous years experience to improve the event’s planning and implementation.
Indian Clothing Sale
What is it? Our Director of Service has spent several weeks this summer in India volunteering her time with a school for blind children. In her time off, she visited local Indian venders to choose and design authentic clothing, jewelry and purses that will be sold to Miami students, faculty and the Oxford community this fall.
What are we doing now? After designing and purchasing items for the sale, we are now looking to obtain a location to host the event.
